Christmas Cards
Christmas Cards

I don’t know why it seems so hard
To just select one Christmas card.
But trust me, friends, when I confess
That simple task is quite a test.
It isn’t that there aren’t enough.
In fact that’s why it gets so tough.
Perhaps if there were just a few
I’d have no problem which to choose.
But here I stand and meditate
About which one’s the one I’ll take,
Cause in my mind I try to see
If that one card is really me.
Does it say what I would say,
And in a warm and friendly way?
Or just too cute with fuzzy things,
Or too austere to send the thing?
And what about to whom I’ll send,
Will they make out what I intend,
Or will they take offense or what
Because I sent what they would not?
How can they see the me inside
Or know how hard I really tried
To pick the card that says it best,
And disregard the rest?
So here I stand and look and wait.
Oh yes. . . .
Your card will be a little late.
