He was just an old man whom I chanced to meet
While strolling alone one day on the street.
We paused to chat and pass the time of day,
And I proudly told him I’d be married in another day.
He turned to me with his wise old eyes,
And in a gentle warm voice passed on his surmise.
“Being in love is a wonderful thing. . .
It makes a woman a queen; a man a king.
Building the foundation for a home
Takes a minimum of two; not one alone.
It takes sharing and giving and closeness and prinde,
To make a house a home in which to abide.
It takes love and care and forgiveness, too.
And trust abouve all to build the foundation true.
It takes planning and time and a lot of worry.
There is no way to make a home in a hurry.
To mature to the garden of wisdom planted in moments of bliss,
Let not to each other devotion be last on the list.
For each to the other must try to be true,
And work together in all that you do.
Cherish the moments together that come your way,
And honor each other with each passing day.”
